Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I currently have a website and want it redone. Do you do that?
A: Yes we do. We would be happy to evaluate your current website and discuss possibilites.

Q: I would like a new website designed. How much does this cost?
A: This would depend on a number of things. The type of website, number of pages, we offer a free inital consultation to discuss your needs and then are better able to provide you with an estimate.

Q: Can you create a design that I can code myself?
A: Yes we can. If you prefer to do your own coding, we can provide you with a fully layered and grouped PSD file.

Q: I would like to sell my products through an online store. Is this something that you can do?
A: Yes we can. We would be happy to provide a free initial consultation to learn more about your needs and requirements.

Q: I have a lot of content and I need to integrate this into a CMS solution. Do you deal with CMS packages?
A: Yes we do. We are experienced in Joomla, Drupal, WordPress and a variety of other CMS solutions. We would be happy to discuss your needs with you to help you decide on the most suitable solution to fit within your needs.

Q. Can I get my own domain name? (example: www.mybusiness.com)
A. Yes you can unless the domain has already been taken by another business. We will walk you through this process.

Q. How does one go about updating a website?
A. The most common way sites are updated is by using a a web authoring program such as the one we use - Dreamweaver and an FTP (file transfer protocal) program for uploading files to your host server. For a reasonable fee, we can assist with training should this be required.

Q. How much does it cost to build a website?
A. This depends on what the client requires on their website. Larger, more detailed sites are obviously more expensive. Small sites (3 - 4 pages with custom graphics, navigation, links) usually start around $400-450.
Sites that use flash, ecommerce sites, database driven sites, cost more because much more time is involved in creating this type of content. Such sites can cost several thousands of dollars. St Croix Designers work closely with the client to establish their needs and then works within their allocated budget to come up with a design that is both functional and well designed. We also take into account that the website can be expanded at a later date, should the client wish to do so.

Q. Do I need anything else besides a domain name and a website?
A. Yes, you will need hosting. Websites are stored on host servers that are continuously connected to the internet. When a websurfer types in a web address eg: www.google.com the computer that hosts that site sends the requested information to the websurfer's computer. The cost to host a website is minimal, considering the site is available to the world 24/7.
St Croix Designers can also offer you a hosting account for your basic or standard website.

Q. How long does it take for you to complete my website?
A. Basic - Standard Plan sites can be built in about a week or two depending on our schedule. Business Plan sites usually take several weeks or even months to complete. Again this obviously depends on what has been planned for the site, the client being on time with deliverables and our schedule. We always give an estimate of the time it will take to complete the site and an expected completion date.

Q. How do I get started now that I know a little bit more?
